By the Grace of Purandara Vittala, the 18th Annual Smt. Anasuya Srinivas Memorial Purandara Daasa Krithi Music Competition is scheduled on January 11th 2026, and the Finals on Jan 18th, 2026, at the Karnataka Association premises, Radhakrishna Road Tatabad, Coimbatore.
The Competition is open to people as detailed here:
Group A (10 to 14 yrs.), born in the years between 2011 – 2014
Group B (15 to 19 yrs.) born in the years between 2006 – 2010
Group C (20 onwards) born in the years before 2005
Allotted time for singing (for Preliminary competition): 4 minutes for all the above groups
All groups – No Raga Aalapan, swara
Team Event
Group E: (10 to 30 yrs.) born between 1995 -2015
Time allotted – 1 song and a maximum of 6 minutes.
There are around 200 Purandara Daasara Kritis in the Karnataka Association website (www.kacbe.co.in/…) for your reference. Try to learn a new song to avoid repetition in the competition.
Schedule of the event
Entries will be received from 25th October to 31st December 2025.
The workshop for the finalists will be announced on 11th January 2026.
Preliminary round - 11th January 2026
- 9am onwards with a lunch for the participants who stay for the afternoon event also
- And 2pm onwards for the Team Event
Registration and Reporting
Reporting and actual timing of each competition will be announced after 31st December 2025
The participants will be called to sing on as per their registration number.
Finals & Award ceremony – 18th January 2026
Registration of applicants and Rules:
- Registration can be done at the link that will be provided on 25th October 2025.
- The registration form / app will be available on the website kacbe.co.in on 25th October 2025.
- Registration to be done ONLY online. No cash payments accepted.
- Payment of Rs.250 for individual events and Rs.600 per team for Team event
- Registration ID is provided as soon as you register and you will also receive an email with the ID. Please submit the soft copy of the ID or the print-out of the email while reporting.
- Only Purandara Daasara Kritis to be sung by the participants.
- Participants should come prepared with 2 songs, written on a slip and submit the same to the judges on their turn. The Judges will choose from among the 2 for the participant to sing.
- If selected for the finals, the participant should sing any other song of Purandara Daasa of his or her choice except the song sung during the preliminaries.
- The participants selected for the finals will be announced on the website and will be personally intimated on your mobile before the end of the day.
Online Workshop
Online workshop to correct the diction and pronunciation – only for the finalists – will be announced on the day of the preliminary competition.
Attending the workshop will NOT influence your marks in the finals. This is only to improve your presentation.
Competitive Round – 11th January 2026 – Group A, B, C
1. The competitor should render a Purandara Daasar Krithi within the stipulated time. This need not be the full song.
2. Prepare 2 Purandhara Daasar krithis. Judges will ask the participant to sing one of the two songs mentioned by the competitor in the Slip.
3. Strictly avoid Aalapans, detailing Swaras or Niravals.
4. Participants are advised to bring their own ‘Sruthi Box’ or tambura and use them.
5. Mention the raga & thala before starting the song.
6. Judging will be based on the raga, sruthi, thala, bhava, pronunciation and diction. The judges’ decision and selection are final.
Team Event
1. A team shall comprise a minimum of 3 and maximum of 5 participants. Plus, one instrument which is optional.
2. Mention the raga & tala before starting the song.
3. Singing time duration is 6 mins only.
4. Judging will be based on the raga, sruthi, tala, bhava, pronunciation and diction.
5. The Judges’ Decision and selection is final.
Finals – 18th Jan 2026
1. The finalist, individual or team, shall sing a different Purandara Daasar krithi – do not repeat the same song rendered in the preliminary round.
2. The participant MUST sing the selected song fully as there is no time restriction.
3. As in the preliminaries, no Alapanas and swaras. Uga Bhoga may be included.
4. The presentation will be before an invited audience.
QUIZ on Purandara Daasa
As in the previous years, we will be conducting a quiz on Purandara Daasa and his kritis for all the competition participants and the invited public.
Accommodation
For outstation participants, free accommodation can be provided for the day (no overnight stay) at the Karnataka Association premises, if required. Please contact the Manager, Mr.Karthik @ +91 8675408818. Food is your responsibility
